To visitors who have never been in the Amazon before, it might seem like a world away. But Pañacocha Ecolodge deep in pristine rainforest, is easily accessible from Quito.
After a 25-minutes flight fromQuito-Ecuador, the trip already starts. First you have a three-hour (depending on river’s water level) ride in a motorized canoe over the mighty and wide Napo river and then after 45 minutes more over the incredible mesmerizing jungle river Pañayacu, you can already be lying in a hammock enjoying the sounds of birds and monkeys.
The Ecolodge is located in the unique primary rainforest of Pañacocha reserve (56,000 hectares). This reserve has a very important role, which importantly connects the two largest Yasuni National Park (982,000 hectares) and the Cuyabeno Biological Reserve (600,000 hectares).The forest around Pañacocha Lodge is home to 480 bird species, 7 species of monkey (howler, squirl, Wooly's, capuchin, night monkeys, black-mantled Tamarin and pigmy Marmosets), sloths, capibara’s, tapirs, jaguars, peccari’s, ocelots.
In this area there are two types of forest called “Flooded Forest” and “Terra Firma”. The Flooded Forest is connected to other lakes via numerous little creeks, which is ideal for paddle canoe rides with your guide and give you a great possibility of see different species of birds, pink dolphins, giant river otters, anacondas and manatee. The Terra Firma is higher located where you can walk through the forest and admire huge trees like Ceibo’s, also give you the possibility to see bigger animals like capibara’s, tapirs, jaguars, peccari’s, learn about medicinal, poisonous and other useful plants.
